Paratypes: (over 220) BMNH 1917.11.2.5-6 (2); FMNH 72626 (26), 75956 (100), 105929 [ex FMNH 53544] (1); MCZ 29950 (5); CAS-SU 21933 (7), 24657 (4); USNM 120430 (1); ZMA 110648 (5), 110649 (1). Type catalog: Henn 1928:57 [ref. 12305] as bovallii, Böhlke 1953:26 [ref. 12291], Nijssen et al. 1982:24 [ref. 19236], Böhlke 1984:44 [ref. 13621], Ibarra & Stewart 1987:68 [ref. 12367], Vari & Howe 1991:34 [ref. 19022]. Two types (i.e. 2 holotypes) were listed in the original description; authors have interpreted one of them as holotype as recorded in the FMNH catalog. Ibarra & Stewart list 171 specimens from 4 localities as now present at FMNH. Appeared originally as bovalii, named for the family Bovalius, i.e. Dr. Bovalius and his brother, Dr. Ed. Bovalius, the correct species epithet would have been bovaliorum, not to be corrected according to the ICZN. •Valid as Poecilocharax bovalii Eigenmann 1909 -- (Géry 1970:17 [ref. 34971], Buckup in Reis et al. 2003:93 [ref. 27061], Ohara et al. 2022:19 [ref. 39267], Taphorn et al. 2022:22 [ref. 41297] as bovaliorum, Buckup 2024:309 [ref. 40817] as bovaliorum). Current status: Valid as Poecilocharax bovalii Eigenmann 1909. Crenuchidae: Crenuchinae. Distribution: South America: Kaieteur Falls, Potaro River drainage (Guyana) endemic. Habitat: freshwater.

Holotype: MZUSP 121650. Paratypes: INPA, MCP, MNRJ, MZUSP. •Valid as Poecilocharax callipterus Ohara, Pastana & Camelier 2022. Current status: Valid as Poecilocharax callipterus Ohara, Pastana & Camelier 2022. Crenuchidae: Crenuchinae. Distribution: South America: Rio Juma drainage, Rio Aripuanã subbasin, Rio Madeira basin, Amazonas State, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.

L.] & Camelier [P.] 2022:14, Figs. 12-14 [Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society v. 197 (no. 2); ref. 39267] Igarapé Mutum, tributary of the Rio Juma, Rio Aripuanã drainage, Rio Madeira basin, Apuí, Amazonas State, Brazil, 7°14'58"S, 59°58'40"W, elevation 123 meters. Holotype: MZUSP 121652. Paratypes: INPA, MNRJ, MZUSP. •Valid as Poecilocharax rhizophilus Ohara, Pastana & Camelier 2022. Current status: Valid as Poecilocharax rhizophilus Ohara, Pastana & Camelier 2022. Crenuchidae: Crenuchinae. Distribution: South America: upper Rio Juma drainage, middle Rio Aripuanã subbasin, Rio Madeira basin, Amazonas State, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.

weitzmani, Poecilocharax Géry [J.] 1965:207, Pl. 18 (fig. 19); Figs. 10-11 [Senckenbergiana Biologica v. 46 (no. 3); ref. 1586] Igarapé Préto, along Upper Amazon, near Belem, about 60 kilometers below Leticia, Brazil. Holotype (unique): SMF 7332. •Valid as Poecilocharax weitzmani Géry 1965 -- (Géry 1970:18 [ref. 34971], Buckup in Reis et al. 2003:93 [ref. 27061], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:34 [ref. 35633], Ohara et al. 2022:19 [ref. 39267], Buckup 2024:309 [ref. 40817]). Current status: Valid as Poecilocharax weitzmani Géry 1965. Crenuchidae: Crenuchinae. Distribution: South America: upper Solimões, upper Negro, and upper Orinoco River basins, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater.
