Also appeared in Devincenzi 1925:304, 322; Devincenzi treated as a synonym of Pogonias chromis (Linnaeus). •Synonym of Pogonias courbina (Lacepède 1803) -- (Azpelicueta et al. 2019:8 [ref. 36834], Parenti 2020:45 [ref. 37439]). Current status: Synonym of Pogonias courbina (Lacepède 1803). Sciaenidae. Habitat: brackish, marine.

Neotype designated by Azpelicueta et al. 2019:14 [ref. 36834]. •Synonym of Pogonias cromis (Linnaeus 1766) -- (Chao 1978:34 [ref. 6983]). •Valid as Pogonias courbina (Lacepède 1803) -- (Azpelicueta et al. 2019:8 [ref. 36834], Parenti 2020:45 [ref. 37439], Carvalho-Filho 2023:181 [ref. 40480]). Current status: Valid as Pogonias courbina (Lacepède 1803). Sciaenidae. Distribution: Southwestern Atlantic Ocean: Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) south to Golfo de San Matias (Argentina). fasciatus, Pogonias Lacepède [B. G. E.] (ex Bosc d'Antic) 1801:137, 138 [Histoire naturelle des poissons (Lacepède) v. 3; ref. 2710] Locality not stated [Charleston, South Carolina, U.S.A.]. Holotype (unique): MNHN 0000-7461. Type catalog: Bauchot & Desoutter 1987:17 [ref. 6382]. Description based on the holotype which was donated via the Netherlands to MNHN, and on the 'Chætodon percatus; spinis dorsalibus novem, analibus duo; corpore elongato, fasciato; mento barbato' in a manuscript by Bosc (Louis-Augustin Bosc d'Antic, 1759-1828, French diplomat and naturalist); see Sonnini 1803:156 [ref. 30473]. Figured on Pl. 16 (fig. 2) of Lacepède 1800 [ref. 2709], but with vernacular name. Also appeared in Sonnini 1803:155, 156 (vol. 8) [ref. 30473]. •Synonym of Pogonias cromis (Linnaeus 1766) -- (Chao 1978:34 [ref. 6983], Parenti 2020:45 [ref. 37439]).
