Historia natural. Tomo 4. Reptiles y peces; ref. 41293] Indian seas; Cuba. Syntypes: ?MNHN A-8478 (1) Indian seas. Type catalog: Beaunier et al. 2009:300 [ref. 28887]. Based on Hollard manuscript and reference to Parra from Hollard; original localities therefore are Indian seas and Cuba. Also appeared as new in Hollard in Guichenot 1853:184 [ref. 18164], and in Hollard 1854:46 Pl. 2 (fig. 3) [ref. 18300] as Triacanthus longirostris. Synonymous with Triacanthus strigilifer Cantor 1849, but has not been used as valid for the last 100 years; therefore reversal of precedence in favour of Triacanthus strigilifer Cantor 1849 (R. Fricke, pers. comm., June 2024). •Synonym of Pseudotriacanthus strigilifer (Cantor 1849) -- (Tyler 1968:290 [ref. 6438]). Nomen Oblitum. Current status: Synonym of Pseudotriacanthus strigilifer (Cantor 1849). Triacanthidae. Habitat: marine. longirostris, Triacanthus Hollard [H. L. G. M.] 1854:46, Pl. 2 (fig. 3) [Annales des Sciences Naturelles, Paris (Zoologie) (Sér. 4) v. 1; ref. 18300] Indian seas. Holotype (unique): MNHN A-8478 (dry mount). Type catalog: Le Danois 1961:513 [ref. 21538], Beaunier et al. 2009:294 [ref. 28887]. Apparently appeared first as Hollard in Guichenot 1853 as Monacanthus longirostris. •Synonym of Pseudotriacanthus strigilifer (Cantor 1849) -- (Beaunier et al. 2009:294 [ref. 28887]). Current status: Synonym of Pseudotriacanthus strigilifer (Cantor 1849). Triacanthidae. Habitat: marine. strigilifer, Triacanthus Cantor [T. E.] 1849:1345 [363], Pl. 9 (figs. 1-2) [Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal v. 18 (pt 2); ref. 715] Sea of Penang, Malaysia. Holotype (unique): apparently lost. On p. 363 of separate. Monacanthus longirostris Hollard 1843 is an unused senior synonym, therefore reversal of precedence; Triacanthus strigilifer Cantor 1849 is here declared a nomen protectum (R. Fricke, pers. comm., June 2024).
