Please look in Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes for authorships of sections, Families of Fishes (all), and related information. Species in the genus Rachoviscus: [ 2 ] records crassiceps, Rachoviscus Myers [G. S.] 1926:566, fig'd [Blätter für Aquarien- und Terrarienkunde v. 37 (no. 24); ref. 3094] Supposedly near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil [aquarium import]. Lectotype: USNM 92971. Paralectotypes: CAS-SU 18146 (1), USNM 94216 (3). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:26 [ref. 12291]. Lectotype selected by Weitzman & Cruz 1980:1009 [ref. 8528]; they also suggest type locality probably is the region of Paranaguá, Brazil. Also as a separate, pp. 1-2. •Valid as Rachoviscus crassiceps Myers 1926 -- (Weitzman & Cruz 1981:1007 [ref. 8528], Lima in Reis et al. 2003:155 [ref. 27061], dos Reis et al. 2020:460 [ref. 38364], Bertaco 2022:102 [ref. 40102]). Current status: Valid as Rachoviscus crassiceps Myers 1926. Acestrorhamphidae: Thayeriinae. Distribution: South America: coastal River basins of Paraná and northern Santa Catarina states, southeastern Mata Atlantica (Brazil). Habitat: freshwater. graciliceps, Rachoviscus Weitzman [S. H.] & Cruz [C. A. G. da] 1981:1003, Figs. 1-2 [Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington v. 93 (no. 4); ref. 8528] About 1 kilometer north of Prado, about 500 meters from Atlantic, Bahia, Brazil, 17°19'S, 39°14'W. Holotype: MZUSP 14387. Paratypes: MNRJ 10585-86 (2), MZUSP 14388-90 (3), USNM 220355 (3). Type catalog: Vari & Howe 1991:37 [ref. 19022], Oyakawa 1996:493 [ref. 23140]. •Valid as Rachoviscus graciliceps Weitzman & Cruz 1981 -- (Lima in Reis et al. 2003:155 [ref. 27061], Silva et al. 2020:7 [ref. 37809], Bertaco 2022:102 [ref. 40102], Vieira-Guimarães et al. 2024:39 [ref. 41258]). Current status: Valid as Rachoviscus graciliceps Weitzman & Cruz 1981. Acestrorhamphidae: Thayeriinae. Distribution: South America: coastal river basins, southern Bahia State (Brazil).
