sinensis, Sebastes McClelland [J.] 1843:397, Pl. 21 (fig. 3) [Calcutta Journal of Natural History v. 4 (no. 4) (for 1844); ref. 2927] Chusan, China. Holotype (unique): whereabouts unknown. This name apparently has not been used as a valid name since 1899, and placed in synonymy of Sebastiscus marmoratus by Günther 1860:104 [ref. 1963]. The name is in competition with Sebastes sinensis (Gilbert 1890), a secondary homonym. Sebastes sinensis (Gilbert 1890) has been recognized as a valid species for many years, and that name has not been replaced. We consider it to be a novem protectum under Art. 23.9.1 and Sebastes sinensis McClelland to be a nomen oblitum. •Synonym of Sebastiscus marmoratus (Cuvier 1829) -- (Endruweit 2024:65 [ref. 41040]).
