Current status: Synonym of Theraps irregularis Günther 1862. Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Habitat: freshwater. irregularis, Theraps Günther [A.] 1862:284 [Catalogue of the fishes in the British Museum v. 4; ref. 1969] Guatemala (Atlantic Slope). Holotype (unique): BMNH 1861.8.12.15. Theraps is apparently masculine. •Valid as Cichlasoma irregulare (Günther 1862) -- (Conkel 1993:157 [ref. 22949], Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:67 [ref. 22290], Nelson et al. 2004:152 [ref. 27807]). •Valid as Theraps irregularis Günther 1862 -- (Allgayer 1989:6 [ref. 20696], Bussing 1998:381 [ref. 24179], Burgess 2000:50 [ref. 24818] as irregulare, Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:643 [ref. 27061], Miller 2006:374 [ref. 28615], McMahan et al. 2010:1299 [ref. 31111], Page et al. 2013:157 [ref. 32708], Říčan et al. 2016:41 [ref. 34357], Gómez-Martínez et al. 2022:241 [ref. 39506], Barrientos et al. 2023:273 [ref. 41235], Page et al. 2023:137 [ref. 40505], Quintana 2024:7 [ref. 41186]).
