Syntypes: (3) BSKU (lost). Kamohara "neotype": BSKU 7170. Neotype designated by Kamohara 1961:5 [ref. 19282], but that designation was not made in a revisory work and is invalid; Tyler 1968:131 [ref. 6438] indicated that the Kamohara's neotype was not the same species as T. anomalus japonicus; Eschmeyer 1998:807 [ref. 23416] did not regard Tyler's mention of Kamohara's neotype as establishing a neotype. •Synonym of Triacanthodes ethiops Alcock 1894 -- (Tyler 1968:131 [ref. 6438]).
