Current status: Valid as Triacanthodes indicus Matsuura 1982. Triacanthodidae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: Saya de Malha Bank endemic. Habitat: marine.

Current status: Valid as Triacanthodes intermedius Matsuura & Fourmanoir 1984. Triacanthodidae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific: New Caledonia. Habitat: marine.

japonicus, Triacanthodes anomalus Kamohara [T.] 1943:133, Fig. 2 upper [Bulletin of the Biogeographical Society of Japan v. 13 (no. 17); ref. 9220] Mimase, Kochi Prefecture, Japan. Syntypes: (3) BSKU (lost). Kamohara "neotype": BSKU 7170. Neotype designated by Kamohara 1961:5 [ref. 19282], but that designation was not made in a revisory work and is invalid; Tyler 1968:131 [ref. 6438] indicated that the Kamohara's neotype was not the same species as T. anomalus japonicus; Eschmeyer 1998:807 [ref. 23416] did not regard Tyler's mention of Kamohara's neotype as establishing a neotype. •Synonym of Triacanthodes ethiops Alcock 1894 -- (Tyler 1968:131 [ref. 6438]). Current status: Synonym of Triacanthodes ethiops Alcock 1894. Triacanthodidae. Habitat: marine.
