tanensis, Petrocephalus catostoma Whitehead [P. J. P.] & Greenwood [P. H.] 1959:286 [Revue de Zoologie et de Botanique Africaines v. 60 (nos 3-4); ref. 12037] Garsen, Lower Tana River, Kenya. Holotype: BMNH 1963.11.29.1. Paratypes: BMNH 1963.11.19.2-8 (8). •Synonym of Petrocephalus catostoma (Günther 1866), but a valid subspecies tanensis Whitehead & Greenwood 1959 as described -- (Gosse 1984:111 [ref. 6169], Seegers et al. 2003:29 [ref. 28087], Kramer et al. 2012:2233 [ref. 32160]). •Valid as Petrocephalus tanensis Whitehead & Greenwood 1959 -- (Kramer et al. 2012:2247 [as a subspecies on p. 2233] [ref. 32160]). Current status: Valid as Petrocephalus tanensis Whitehead & Greenwood 1959. Mormyridae. Distribution: Tana River, Kenya. Habitat: freshwater.
