ishikawae, Oncorhynchus Jordan [D. S.] & McGregor [E. A.] in Jordan & Hubbs 1925:132, Pls. 6 (fig. 1), 8 (fig. 6) [Memoirs of the Carnegie Museum v. 10 (no. 2); ref. 2486] Lake Biwa, Japan. Holotype: FMNH 58682 [ex CM 7786]. Type catalog: Henn 1928:52 [ref. 12305], Ibarra & Stewart 1987:62 [ref. 12367]. The spelling ishikawae is acceptable; early workers almost certainly Latinized the name first, and then added an 'e' (Art. 31.1.1) [WNE, 12 Mar. 2012]. •Synonym of Oncorhynchus masou (Brevoort 1856) -- (Berg 1948:202 [ref. 12882] as masu, Okada 1961:317 [ref. 6363], see also Dorofeeva & Savvaitova 1998:33 [ref. 23574]). •Synonym of Salmo masou Brevoort 1856, but a valid subspecies -- (Kawanabe & Mizuno 1989:180 [ref. 25598]). •Synonym of Oncorhynchus masou (Brevoort 1856), but a valid subspecies ishikawae -- (Sato et al. 1998:38 [ref. 24972], Mizuno et al. 1999:7 [ref. 25311], Nakabo 2000:304 [ref. 25086], Matsuura et al. 2000:24 [ref. 26000], Shimizu 2001:21 [ref. 25799], Nakabo 2002:304 [ref. 26001], Gwo et al. 2008:778 [ref. 31607], Kano et al. 2010:78 [ref. 33818]). Current status: Synonym of Oncorhynchus masou (Brevoort 1856). Salmonidae: Salmoninae. Distribution: Southern areas of the Japanese Archipelago [this subspecies]. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
