Holotype: YPM 2676. Type catalog: Moore & Boardman 1991:13 [ref. 16741]. •Synonym of Diplophos taenia Günther 1873 -- (Badcock in Whitehead et al. 1984:296 [ref. 13675], Quéro et al. 1990:288 [ref. 14659]). •Valid as Diplophos proximus Parr 1931 -- (Ozawa et al. 1990:110 [ref. 16665], Love et al. 2005:35 [ref. 37547], Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006:250 [ref. 28944], Fourriére et al. 2016:454 [ref. 34668], Love et al. 2021:55 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:84 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Diplophos proximus Parr 1931. Gonostomatidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: southern California (U.S.A.) south to Ecuador, including Gulf of California (Mexico) and Galapagos Islands (Ecuador). Habitat: marine.
