Holotype: ZMUC P20969. Paratypes: MCZ 46526 (2). •Valid as Polyipnus aquavitus Baird 1971 -- (Paxton et al. 1989:192 [ref. 12442], Paulin et al. 1989:96 [ref. 24556], Harold 1994:497 [ref. 21941], Harold 1999:1902 [ref. 24741], Randall & Lim in Randall & Lim 2000:590 [ref. 25122], Paxton et al. 2006:426 [ref. 28995], Harold & Gomon 2008:232 [ref. 30629], Fricke et al. 2011:357 [ref. 31242], Fricke et al. 2015:2 [ref. 33930], Harold et al. 2015:459 [ref. 34249], Fricke et al. 2019:61 [ref. 36673]). Current status: Valid as Polyipnus aquavitus Baird 1971. Sternoptychidae: Sternoptychinae. Distribution: Western Pacific: eastern Indonesia east to South Fiji Basin, south to Tasman Sea and northern New Zealand. Habitat: marine.
