Holotype (unique): MCZ 27945. •Valid as Polyipnus laternatus Garman 1899 -- (Harold 1994:490 [ref. 21941], Randall & Lim in Randall & Lim 2000:590 [ref. 25122], Harold 2003:892 [ref. 27001], Lima et al. 2011:44 [ref. 31116], Lins Oliveira et al. 2015:59 [ref. 37485], Fricke et al. 2024:208 [ref. 41622], Schmitter-Soto et al. 2025:suppl. Tab. 1, p. 11 [ref. 42574]). Current status: Valid as Polyipnus laternatus Garman 1899. Sternoptychidae: Sternoptychinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: Cape Hatteras (U.S.A.) south to Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil), including Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. IUCN (2019): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
