Current status: Valid as Argyripnus ephippiatus Gilbert & Cramer 1897. Sternoptychidae: Maurolicinae. Distribution: Western and Hawaiian Islands, Queensland (Australia), Sea of Japan, probably more widespread. Habitat: marine.
