Paratypes: (25) distributed among: DANA 4774, 4781; NMFSH (HMS 30-63, JRM 22-5); OS 561-562; SIO 51-375 (1), 60-411 (1), 63-423 (2), 68-483 (4), 68-486 (2), 68-490 (1), 68-542 (1), ?72-24 (1). •Valid as Scopelarchus stephensi Johnson 1974 -- (Johnson 1974:192 [ref. 7050], Johnson 1982:174 [ref. 5519], Nakabo 2000:373 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:373 [ref. 26001], Mundy 2005:197 [ref. 28379], Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006:253 [ref. 28944], Davis 2015:67 [ref. 33682]). Current status: Valid as Scopelarchus stephensi Johnson 1974. Scopelarchidae. Distribution: North Pacific: transition zone from 25°-35°N, 125°W-160°E, including Hawaiian Ridge. Habitat: marine.
