Paratypes: Dana station 3929 II (1), 3948 I (1); ISH 800-1966 (12), 464-1971 (1); MCZ 52648 (1); Poltawa station 423 (3); RHB 1438 (1). Plus additional material. Type catalog: Krefft 1978:12 [ref. 9884]. •Valid as Scopelosaurus herwigi Bertelsen, Krefft & Marshall 1976 -- (Krefft 1986:269 [ref. 5684], Paulin et al. 1989:107 [ref. 24556], Paxton & Niem 1999:1927 [ref. 24746], Figueiredo & Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:49 [ref. 27192], Stewart 2015:560 [ref. 34215], Fricke et al. 2018:71 [ref. 35805], Sutton et al. 2020:136 [ref. 37832]). Current status: Valid as Scopelosaurus herwigi Bertelsen, Krefft & Marshall 1976. Notosudidae. Distribution: Southern circumglobal, except in Southeastern Pacific Ocean. Habitat: marine.
