benoiti, Scopelus Cocco [A.] 1838:172 [12], Pl. 6 (fig. 4) [Nuovi annali delle scienze naturali e rendiconto dei lavori dell'Accademia della Scienze dell'Instituto di Bologna con appendice agraria. Bologna Anno 1 Tomo 2 (fasc. 9); ref. 865] Messina, Sicily, Italy, Mediterranean Sea. No types known. On p. 12 of separate. Specific name spelled Benoisti on p. 172, 194, and on Pl. 6, with the common name "Scopelo di Benoit" and named for Sig. Benoit. There is no evidence that the spellings were typesetting ones, but the spelling benoisti probably can be regarded as an incorrect original spelling based on Sig. Benoit; benoiti was used by Bonaparte 1840 and subsequent authors. •Valid as Hygophum benoiti (Cocco 1838) -- (Krefft & Bekker 1973:183 [ref. 7181], Paxton 1979:11 [ref. 6440], Hulley in Whitehead et al. 1984:453 [ref. 13675], Scott & Scott 1988:217 [ref. 25518], McAllister 1990:105 [ref. 14674], Hulley 1990:426 [ref. 15273], Golani 1994:37 [ref. 23162], Santos et al. 1997:47 [ref. 23531], Arruda 1997:46 [ref. 24952], McEachran & Fechhelm 1998:649 [ref. 23897], Porteiro et al. 1999:36 [ref. 24203], Bilecenoğlu et al. 2002:45 [ref. 26753], Hartel & Craddock 2003:950 [ref. 27005], Moore et al. 2003:200 [ref. 27076], Golani 2005:24 [ref. 37112], Fricke et al. 2007:60 [ref. 29533], Wirtz et al. 2007:26 [ref. 30263], Lipej & Dulčić 2010:25 [ref. 36649], Hulley 2016:1899 [ref. 34576], Artüz & Fricke 2019:553 [ref. 36612], Elbaraasi et al. 2019:93 [ref. 36864]).
