macdonaldi, Nannobranchium Goode [G. B.] & Bean [T. H.] 1896:94, Pl. 29 (fig. 110) [Special Bulletin U. S. National Museum No. 2; ref. 1848] East of New Jersey, U.S.A., 39°48'N, 70°36'W, Albatross station 2553, depth 551 fathoms. Lectotype: USNM 35445 (disintegrated). Paralectotypes: ANSP 7978 (1); USNM 33526 (6), 35441 (1), 35539 (2), 35557 (1), 35616 (1), 39478 (1, on which most of description was made), 39481 (1), 43844-48 (2, 1, 1, 1, 1), 43850 (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:131 [ref. 13621]. The original genus is correctly Nannobrachium. Lectotype established by Jordan & Evermann 1896:564 [ref. 2443]. It is clear from this account that Goode & Bean regarded all specimens as types, although the actual description was based on one specimen and many others were listed; the lectotype was in fact not the one on which most of the descriptive text was based [USNM numbers from D. G. Smith, 4/11/01]. •Valid as Lampanyctus macdonaldi (Goode & Bean 1896) -- (Krefft & Bekker 1973:189 [ref. 7181], Paxton 1979:13 [ref. 6440], Hulley in Whitehead et al. 1984:464 [ref. 13675], Hulley 1986:308 [ref. 5672], Scott & Scott 1988:223 [ref. 25518], Paxton et al. 1989:264 [ref. 12442], Pequeño 1989:37 [ref. 14125], McAllister 1990:107 [ref. 14674], Hulley 1990:442 [ref. 15273], Hulley 1990:166 [ref. 21685], Hulley in Okamura et al. 1995:102 [ref. 22531], Hartel & Craddock 2003:950 [ref. 27005], Moore et al. 2003:201 [ref. 27076], Paxton et al. 2006:523 [ref. 28994], Møller et al. 2010:34 [ref. 31169], Mecklenburg et al. 2011:120 [ref. 31212], Robertson & Clements 2015:663 [ref. 34257], Afonso et al. 2016:29, 177 [ref. 36199], Hulley 2016:1908 [ref. 34576], Mecklenburg et al. 2018:103 [ref. 36370], Carneiro et al. 2019:122 [ref. 37250], Balushkin & Prirodina 2020:48 [ref. 37828], Sutton et al. 2020:196 [ref. 37832], Fermon et al. 2022:188 [ref. 39448] with question, Page et al. 2023:96 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Lampanyctus macdonaldi (Goode & Bean 1896). Myctophidae: Lampanyctinae. Distribution: Atlantic and adjacent Arctic areas, and circumglobal in Southern Hemisphere.
