Holotype (unique): BMNH 1887.12.7.219. •Valid in genus Lampanyctus -- (Paxton 1979:13 [ref. 6440]). •Valid as Nannobrachium nigrum Günther 1887 -- (Zahuranec 2000:14 [ref. 24618], Nakabo 2000:387 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:388 [ref. 26001], Mundy 2005:231 [ref. 28379], Fricke et al. 2011:362 [ref. 31242]). •Valid as Lampanyctus niger (Günther 1887) -- (Fujii in Masuda et al. 1984:69 [ref. 6441], Pequeño 1989:37 [ref. 14125], Paxton & Hulley 1999:1963 [ref. 24748], Paxton & Hulley in Randall & Lim 2000:593 [ref. 25122], Wang & Chen 2001:115 [ref. 25464], Wang & Chen 2001:109 [ref. 25464], Chen 2002:178 [ref. 26587], Shinohara et al. 2005:412 [ref. 28370]). Current status: Valid as Lampanyctus niger (Günther 1887). Myctophidae: Lampanyctinae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Indonesia and Vietnam east to Hawaiian Islands and Tuamotu Archipelago, north to southern Japan, south to New Caledonia and northern New Zealand. Habitat: marine.
