tenuicauda, Macrurus Garman [S.] 1899:216, Pl. 49 (fig. 1) [Memoirs of the Museum of Comparative Zoology v. 24; ref. 1540] Gulf of Panama, 7°31'30"N, 79°14'W, Albatross station 3384, depth 458 fathoms. Holotype. Syntypes: MCZ 28554 (3), 28555 (1), 51042 (3). Original genus should have been Macrourus. The spelling tenuicauda probably can be regarded as a noun, so it remains tenuicauda in genera of any gender. •Valid as Mataeocephalus tenuicauda (Garman 1899) -- (Iwamoto 1979:145 [ref. 2311], Iwamoto in Cohen et al. 1990:247 [ref. 18936], Iwamoto & Schneider in Fischer et al. 1995:1264 [ref. 22830]). •Valid as Mataeocephalus tenuicaudus (Garman 1899) -- (Iwamoto & McCosker 2001:27 [ref. 25777], Sazonov et al. 2003:283 [ref. 27176], Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006:196 [ref. 28944], McCosker & Rosenblatt 2010:189 [ref. 30957], Grove et al. 2022:17 [ref. 41326]). Current status: Valid as Mataeocephalus tenuicauda (Garman 1899). Macrouridae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Panama south to Ecuador, including Galapagos Islands (Ecuador). IUCN (2010): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
