Syntypes: (6) BMNH 1896.2.10.67 [ex USFC] (1). Original genus should have been Macrourus. Text unclear, but regarded as a replacement name for Macrurus asper Goode & Bean 1883, secondarily preoccupied by Coryphaenoides asper Günther 1877 when placed in Macrurus by Günther 1887:137 [ref. 2013]. •Synonym of Nematonurus armatus (Hector 1875) -- (Marshall 1973:297 [ref. 7194], Geistdoerfer 1990:556 [ref. 16195] as goodei). •Synonym of Coryphaenoides armatus (Hector 1875) -- (Iwamoto & Stein 1974:27 [ref. 7509], Iwamoto 1990:195 [ref. 21688] as goodei, Iwamoto in Cohen et al. 1990:205 [ref. 18936], Nakayama 2020:150 [ref. 37888]).
