mcclellandi, Bregmaceros Thompson [W.] (ex Cantor) 1840:184, Figured [Magazine of Natural History [E. Charlesworth, ed.] (n.s.) v. 4 (art. 6); ref. 4389] Ganges Delta, West Bengal, India. Syntypes: (1 figured and 1 seen by Thompson). Also spelled macclellandi (see Paxton et al. 1989:306 [ref. 12442]) and often misspelled (see Bailly & Hureau 1995 [ref. 22102]). Thompson made the description from one specimen, which would be the holotype, unless the second specimen was the subject of the illustration; he did not have available Cantor's manuscript that apparently was based on two specimens. Thompson's spelling in the main account was "McClellandi", which we regard as the correct original spelling, but in the figure Thompson spelled the species "McClellandii; first reviser not researched. •Mention -- (Cohen in Cohen et al. 1990:16 [ref. 18936]). •Valid as Bregmaceros mcclellandi Thompson 1840 (either i or ii spelling) -- (D'Ancona & Cavinato 1965:66 [ref. 9208], Dor 1984:58 [ref. 29757], Okamura in Masuda et al. 1984:92 [ref. 6441], Smith 1986:330 [ref. 5712], Masuda et al. 1986:393 [ref. 5801], Paxton et al. 1989:306 [ref. 12442], Paulin et al. 1989:121 [ref. 24556] as macclellandi, Cohen 1990:524 [ref. 15766], Shen & Wang 1991 [ref. 19309], Goren & Dor 1994:15 [ref. 25356], Mohsin & Ambak 1996:567 [ref. 27969], Larson & Williams 1997:349 [ref. 23967], De La Cruz Agüero et al. 1997:75 [ref. 24545] as maclelandii, Grove & Lavenberg 1997:206 [ref. 24023], McEachran & Fechhelm 1998:754 [ref. 23897], Iwamoto 1999:1998 [ref. 24761] as mcclellandi, Nakabo 2000:415 [ref. 25086] as macclellandii, Iwamoto in Randall & Lim 2000:595 [ref. 25122] as mcclellandi, Bijukumar & Sushama 2000:185 [ref. 25703] as maclellandi, Schmitter-Soto et al. 2000:152 [ref. 27754] as mcclellandii, Hutchins 2001:23 [ref. 25847], Barman et al. 2002:227 [ref. 27554] as mcclellandi, Nakabo 2002:415 [ref. 26001] as mcclellandii, Manilo & Bogorodsky 2003:S98 [ref. 27377] as mcclellandii, Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:62 [ref. 27192] as mcclellandii, Torii et al. 2003:129 [ref. 26917] as mcclellandi, Khan 2003:8 [ref. 27710] as macclellandi, Torri et al. 2003:27 [ref. 27810], Torii et al. 2004:112 [ref. 27809] as macclellandii, Shinohara et al. 2005:415 [ref. 28370] as macclellandii Thompson 1840, Paxton et al. 2006:621 [ref. 28996], Melo et al. 2010:29 [ref. 30775] as macclellandi, McCosker & Rosenblatt 2010:189 [ref. 30957], Larson et al. 2013:52 [ref. 32988], Kottelat 2013:271 [ref. 32989], Psomadakis et al. 2015:172 [ref. 34104], Struthers 2015:744 [ref. 34261], Ali et al. 2018:313 [ref. 36183], Fricke et al. 2018:80 [ref. 35805], Habib & Islam 2020:Supplementary table p. 9 [ref. 38321], Ho et al. 2020:570 [ref. 37555], Psomadakis et al. 2020:320 [ref. 37272], Taki et al. 2021:309 [ref. 39830], Anderson 2022:243 [ref. 39705], Page et al. 2023:100 [ref. 40505]).
