The original spelling was lagochila and that probably should be maintained. •Valid as Parophidion lagochila Böhlke & Robins 1959 -- (Nelson et al. 2004:92 [ref. 27807]). •Valid as Ophidion lagochila (Böhlke & Robins 1959) -- (Robins in Nielsen et al. 1999:40 [ref. 24448] as lagocheila, Smith-Vaniz et al. 1999:155 [ref. 25013], Nielsen & Robins 2003:968 [ref. 27008], Dennis et al. 2004:72 [ref. 31601], Garrido-Linares & Acero P. 2006:293 [ref. 28946], Page et al. 2013:95 [ref. 32708], Smith-Vaniz & Jelks 2014:28 [ref. 33341], Carvalho-Filho 2023:78 [ref. 40480] as aff. lagochila). Current status: Valid as Ophidion lagochila (Böhlke & Robins 1959). Ophidiidae: Ophidiinae. Distribution: Western Atlantic. Brazilian records based on an undescribed species (Carvalho-Filho 2023:78 [ref. 40480]). Habitat: marine.
