Lectotype: USNM 44383 (154 mm SL). Paralectotypes: UMMZ 162264 (2), USNM 125557 (4). Lectotype not established by Jordan & Evermann 1898:2516 [ref. 2445]. Lectotype designation by Nielsen 2002:88 [ref. 26394] does not conform to the 1999 code but is accepted. •Valid as Neobythites stelliferoides Gilbert 1890 -- (Bussing & López S. 1994:76 [ref. 23101], Nielsen & Cohen in Nielsen et al. 1999:83 [ref. 24448], Nielsen 2002:7 [ref. 26394], Nelson et al. 2004:91 [ref. 27807], Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006:198 [ref. 28944], Nielsen & Møller 2011:785 [ref. 31447], Page et al. 2013:95 [ref. 32708], Robertson et al. 2017:62 [ref. 35676]). Current status: Valid as Neobythites stelliferoides Gilbert 1890. Ophidiidae: Neobythitinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: southern Baja California Sur, including Gulf of California, to Peru. Habitat: marine.
