Lectotype: USNM 37341 (237-mm specimen). Paralectotype: USNM 37341 (1 of 2). Lectotype established in Jordan & Evermann 1898:2511 [ref. 2446] and as figured specimen in caption to Pl. 356, p. 3306 in Jordan & Evermann 1900 [ref. 2446]. •Valid as Porogadus catena (Goode & Bean 1885) -- (McEachran & Fechhelm 1998:735 [ref. 23897], Nielsen & Cohen in Nielsen et al. 1999:86 [ref. 24448], Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006:199 [ref. 28944], Garrido-Linares & Acero P. 2006:295 [ref. 28946], Mincarone et al. 2008:55 [ref. 29626], Costa & Mincarone 2010:354 [ref. 37483], Lins Oliveira et al. 2015:116 [ref. 37485], Schwarzhans & Møller 2021:67 [ref. 38607]). Current status: Valid as Porogadus catena (Goode & Bean 1885). Ophidiidae: Neobythitinae. Distribution: Atlantic Ocean. Habitat: marine.
