Syntypes: MCZ 28631-33 (1, 1, 1). •Possibly a synonym of Cataetyx laticeps Koefoed 1927 -- (Nielsen & Cohen in Nielsen et al. 1999:101 [ref. 24448]). •Valid as Cataetyx simus Garman 1899 -- (Pequeño 1989:48 [ref. 14125], Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:231 [ref. 24555], Balushkin & Prokofiev 2005:557 [ref. 28326], Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006:199 [ref. 28944], Nielsen & Nishioka in Nakaya et at. 2009:199 [ref. 42561], McCosker & Rosenblatt 2010:189 [ref. 30957], Møller et al. 2016:Appendix A [ref. 34432] in Bythitidae, Love et al. 2021:84 [ref. 39279], Grove et al. 2022:17 [ref. 41326] as sp. vs. simus, Page et al. 2023:111 [ref. 40505], Victor et al. 2024:77 [ref. 42021]). Current status: Valid as Cataetyx simus Garman 1899. Bythitidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: southern California (U.S.A.) south to Chile, including Galapagos Islands (Ecuador). IUCN (2020): Least Concern. Habitat: marine.
