Paratypes: BPBM 18032 (1, not found); USNM 214112 (2), 214703 (1). •Valid as Microbrotula randalli Cohen & Wourms 1976 -- (Nielsen & Cohen in Nielsen et al. 1999:107 [ref. 24448], Nielsen 1999:1984 [ref. 24753], Machida 2000:124 [ref. 25106], Allen & Adrim 2003:25 [ref. 26830], Anderson 2005:35 [ref. 28240], Anderson 2007:7 [ref. 29164]). •Valid as Ematops randalli (Cohen & Wourms 1976) -- (Schwarzhans & Nielsen 2011:159 [ref. 31714], Allen & Erdmann 2012:136 [ref. 31980], Møller et al. 2016:Appendix A [ref. 34432] in Bythitidae, Allen & Erdmann 2024:154 [ref. 40796]). Current status: Valid as Ematops randalli (Cohen & Wourms 1976). Bythitidae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific: Christmas Island (Australia), Indonesia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Samoa. Habitat: marine.
