Holotype (unique): ZSI F12939. Type catalog: Menon & Yazdani 1968:147 [ref. 20743], Menon & Rama-Rao 1975:40 [ref. 22148]. Figured in Alcock 1905: Pl. 37 (fig. 3) [ref. 20537]. •Status uncertain, in Brotulina -- (Nielsen & Cohen in Nielsen et al. 1999:126 [ref. 24448]). •In Diancistrus temporarily to agree with current placement of Brotulina. •Valid as Alionematichthys piger (Alcock 1890) -- (Møller & Schwarzhans 2008:102 [ref. 29997], Motomura et al. 2010:77 [ref. 31256], Fricke et al. 2011:367 [ref. 31242], Allen & Erdmann 2012:131 [ref. 31980], Fricke et al. 2014:33 [ref. 33932], Møller et al. 2016:Appendix B [ref. 34432] in Dinematichthyidae, Allen & Erdmann 2024:145 [ref. 40796]). Current status: Valid as Alionematichthys piger (Alcock 1890). Dinematichthyidae. Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Andaman Sea east to French Polynesia, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland (Australia). Habitat: marine.
