Lectotype: ZMUC P92147. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1925.8.11.2-3 (2); ZMUC P92165 (1). Type catalog: Nielsen 1974:98 [ref. 9588]. Lectotype selected by Bertelsen 1951:194 [ref. 287]. •Valid as Borophryne apogon Regan 1925 -- (De La Cruz Agüero et al. 1997:209 [ref. 24545], De la Cruz-Agüero 1998:847 [ref. 24502], Love et al. 2005:59 [ref. 37547], Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006:202 [ref. 28944], Pietsch 2009:486 [ref. 30766], Love et al. 2021:91 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:167 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Borophryne apogon Regan 1925. Linophrynidae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Pacific coast of southern Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to Ecuador. Habitat: marine.
