macrophthalmus, Gobiesox G√ľnther [A.] 1861:502 [Catalogue of the fishes in the British Museum v. 3; ref. 1964] No locality [probably West Indies]. Lectotype: BMNH 1861.8.14.42. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1861.8.14.43 (1) though to be rubiginosus. See the account of Arcos nudus (Linnaeus 1758). Lectotype selected by Briggs 1955:86 [ref. 637] (from Kevin Conway. Oct. 2, 2013). •Valid as Arcos macrophthalmus (Günther 1861) -- (Briggs 1955:85 [ref. 637], ?Grove & Lavenberg 1997:241 [ref. 24023], McEachran 2003:1774 [ref. 27089], Nelson et al. 2004:167 [ref. 27807], Page et al. 2013:172 [ref. 32708]). •Synonym of Arcos nudus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Fernholm 1978:148 [ref. 31804], Fernholm & Wheeler 1983:271 [ref. 20707], Smith-Vaniz & Jelks 2014:73 [ref. 33341]). Current status: Synonym of Arcos nudus (Linnaeus 1758). Gobiesocidae: Gobiesocinae. Distribution: West Indies (if valid). Habitat: marine.
