baracoana, Gambusia Rivas [L. R.] 1944:46 [Proceedings of the New England Zoölogical Club v. 23; ref. 13184] Small freshwater pond, near mouth of Río Miel, vicinity of Baracoa, Oriente Province, Cuba. Holotype: USNM 203150 [ex Rivas coll. 134]. Paratypes: (several) Rivas coll. (? now 0); MCZ 36178 (6); UHMP 456 (?); UMMZ 143375 (6, 3 C&S); USNM 130214 (6), 204442 (539). Type catalog: Parenti et al. 1999:5-6 [ref. 24072], Faloh-Gandarilla et al. 2016:3 [ref. 35177]. Type information: Rivas 1969:202 [ref. 25092]. •Synonym of Gambusia puncticulata Poey 1854, but a valid subspecies -- (Fink 1971:31 [ref. 21211], Lee et al. 1983:17 [ref. 22527]). •Status uncertain -- (Parenti et al. 1999:5 [ref. 24072]). •Species inquirenda in Poeciliidae -- (Lucinda in Reis et al. 2003:575 [ref. 27061]). •Synonym of Gambusia bucheri Rivas 1944 but a valid subspecies as described -- (Meyer 2015:64 [ref. 34698]). •Valid as Gambusia baracoana Rivas 1944 -- (Rosen & Bailey 1963:98 [ref. 7067], Rauchenberger 1989:3 [ref. 15687], Faloh-Gandarilla et al. 2016:3 [ref. 35177], Huber 2019:60 [ref. 36941]). Current status: Valid as Gambusia baracoana Rivas 1944. Poeciliidae: Poeciliinae. Distribution: Eastern Cuba. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
