Based on pre-Linnaean sources, including the Anableps of Artedi (ex Seba) 1738:25 [ref. 30578] and 1738:43 [ref. 30349], and Gronow 1754:12, Pl. 1, figs. 1-3 [ref. 20783]. •Valid as Anableps anableps (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Parenti 1981:501 [ref. 7066], Cervigón 1992:254 [ref. 23827], Keith et al. 2000:52 [ref. 24547], Camargo & Isaac 2001:140 [ref. 27639], Ghedotti & Wiley 2003:1153 [ref. 27019], Ghedotti in Reis et al. 2003:583 [ref. 27061], Perez et al. 2017:1 [ref. 35239], Marceniuk et al. 2017:39 [ref. 35324], Huber 2019:9 [ref. 36941], Caires et al. in Marceniuk et al. 2021:323 [ref. 38945], Koerber et al. 2022:78 [ref. 39235], Carvalho-Filho 2023:93 [ref. 40480], Gurgel-Lourenço et al. 2023:80 [ref. 41056], Vieira et al. 2023:19 [ref. 40759]).
