parae, Poecilia vivepara var. Eigenmann [C. H.] 1894:628 [Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences v. 7 (art. 5); ref. 1214] Ditches of Rua das Mongubas of ParĂ¡, Brazil. Syntypes: (about 150) CAS 22552 [ex IU 5079] (25), BMNH 1894.5.18.57-59 (3). The spelling parae [not parai] is acceptable; early workers almost certainly Latinized the name first, and then added an 'e' (Art. 31.1.1) [WNE, 12 Mar. 2012], the species was originally vivipara; also misspelled. •Valid as Micropoecilia parae (Eigenmann 1894) -- (Keith et al. 2000:66 [ref. 24547], Lucinda in Reis et al. 2003:564 [ref. 27061], Lucinda & Reis 2005:46 [ref. 29205]). •Valid as Poecilia parae Eigenmann 1894 -- (Rosen & Bailey 1963:56 [ref. 7067], Costa & Sarraf 1997:186 [ref. 23280], Rodriguez 1997:673 [ref. 23266], Camargo & Isaac 2001:140 [ref. 27639], Poeser 2003:144 [ref. 26783], Lucinda et al. 2011:63 [ref. 31137], Bragança & Costa 2011:370 [ref. 31195], Bragança et al. 2012:337 [ref. 31747], Meyer 2015:264 [ref. 34698], Huber 2019:112 [ref. 36941], Taphorn et al. 2022:35 [ref. 41297] in subgenus Micropoecilia). Current status: Valid as Poecilia parae Eigenmann 1894. Poeciliidae: Poeciliinae. Distribution: South America: Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana and Brazil. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
