regis, Atherinops Jenkins [O. P.] & Evermann [B. W.] 1889:138 [Proceedings of the United States National Museum v. 11 (no. 698); ref. 2342] Guaymas Bay, Sonora, western Mexico. Holotype: USNM 39632. Paratypes: CAS 79541 [ex IU 7747] (4), CAS-SU 417 (5), USNM (many). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:65 [ref. 12291]. Apparently regis and not regius was the original intended spelling. •Valid as Atherinops regius Jenkins & Evermann 1889 -- (Fuller et al. 1999:280 [ref. 25838]). •Valid as Colpichthys regis (Jenkins & Evermann 1889) -- (Crabtree 1989:560 [ref. 12738], Lavenberg & Chernoff in Fischer et al. 1995:899 [ref. 22829], Dyer 1997:47 [ref. 23262], De La Cruz Agüero et al. 1997:63 [ref. 24545], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:199 [ref. 24550], Dyer in Reis et al. 2003:519 [ref. 27061], Nelson et al. 2004:98 [ref. 27807], Page et al. 2013:100 [ref. 32708], Page et al. 2023:139 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Colpichthys regis (Jenkins & Evermann 1889). Atherinopsidae: Atherinopsinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Gulf of California (Mexico) endemic. Habitat: marine.
