Paxton et al. 1989:364 [ref. 12442] and Paxton et al. 2006:766 [ref. 28994] mention examination of the holotype but did not cite a catalog number. Trnski personal communication (12/1/2017) on type status. •Synonym of Monocentris japonica (Houttuyn 1782) -- (Paxton et al. 1989:364 [ref. 12442], Randall 1995:93 [ref. 22896], Paxton et al. 2006:766 [ref. 28994]). •Valid as Monocentris neozelanica (Powell 1938) -- (Kotlyar 1996:205 [ref. 23292] with question, Konishi 1999:49 [ref. 24259], Su et al. 2022:180 [ref. 39633]). Current status: Valid as Monocentris neozelanica (Powell 1938). Monocentridae. Distribution: Southwestern Pacific Ocean: New Zealand. Habitat: marine.
