Lectotype selected by Denys et al. 2017:17 [ref. 35585]. •Synonym of Pungitius pungitius (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Paepke in Bănărescu & Paepke 2002:277 [ref. 25856]). •Synonym of Pungitius pungitius (Linnaeus 1758), but a valid subspecies -- (Monod 1973:284 [ref. 7193], Reshetnikov et al. 1997:747 [ref. 24702], Keivany & Nelson 2000:118 [ref. 24720]). •Valid as Pungitius laevis (Cuvier 1829) -- (Berg 1949:969 [ref. 20662], Kottelat 1997:166 [ref. 22952], Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:497 [ref. 29996], Denys et al. 2017:17 [ref. 35585], Matsumoto et al. 2021:9 [ref. 38508], Wang et al. 2021:[3] [ref. 38800]). Current status: Valid as Pungitius laevis (Cuvier 1829). Gasterosteidae. Distribution: Western Europe: coastal Atlantic basins (Seine, Scheldt, Loire) of France. Habitat: freshwater.
