capensis, Barbus (Cheilobarbus) Smith [A.] 1841:no pagination, Pl. 10 (fig. 1) [Illustrations of the zoology of South Africa v. 4; ref. 4035] Olifants River, western coast of South Africa. Holotype (unique): BMNH 1845.7.3.99 (dry). The Labeobarbus capensis of authors is Labeobarbus seeberi (Gilchrist & Thompson 1913), see Vreven et al. 2016:69 [ref. 34168] and Skelton et al. 2018:6 [ref. 35835]. •Valid as Barbus capensis Smith 1841 -- (Lévêque & Daget 1984:237 [ref. 6186], Skelton 1993:171 [ref. 24071]). •Valid as Labeobarbus capensis (Smith 1841) -- (Skelton 2001:171 [ref. 27406], Tsigenopoulos et al. 2010:852 [ref. 34067], de Graaf et al. 2010:340 [ref. 34085], Beshera et al. 2016:377 [ref. 34343]). •Valid as Pseudobarbus capensis (Smith 1841) -- (Vreven et al. 2016:21 [ref. 34168], Hayes & Armbruster 2017:356 [ref. 35417] as Pseudobarbus). •Valid as Cheilobarbus capensis (Smith 1841) -- (Skelton et al. 2018:17 [ref. 35835]). Current status: Valid as Cheilobarbus capensis (Smith 1841). Cyprinidae: Smiliogastrinae. Distribution: Olifants River system, South Africa. Habitat: freshwater.
