Type catalog: Andrews 1971:2 [ref. 31471] with genus as Histogamphelus, Andrews 1992:111 [ref. 22689]. •Valid as Histiogamphelus briggsii McCulloch 1914 -- (Dawson 1984:106 [ref. 21119], Dawson 1985:102 [ref. 6541], Paxton et al. 1989:422 [ref. 12442], Kuiter 1993:84 [ref. 23929], Gomon et al. 1994:450 [ref. 22532], Paxton et al. 2006:830 [ref. 29073], Kuiter 2008:457 [ref. 30642], Kuiter 2009:224 [ref. 30404] as briggsi, Hamilton et al. 2016:Supplement 2 [ref. 35615]). Current status: Valid as Histiogamphelus briggsii McCulloch 1914. Syngnathidae: Syngnathinae. Distribution: Southeastern Australia: New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and eastern South Australia. Habitat: brackish, marine.
