Type catalog: Bart & Taylor 1993:53 [ref. 20906]. •Valid as Menidia aculeata (Barbour 1973) -- (Miller 2006:191 [ref. 28615]). •Valid as Chirostoma aculeatum Barbour 1973 -- (Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:58 [ref. 22290], Dyer in Reis et al. 2003:518 [ref. 27061], Nelson et al. 2004:98 [ref. 27807], Scharpf 2007:6 [ref. 30398], Page et al. 2013:99 [ref. 32708]). Current status: Valid as Chirostoma aculeatum Barbour 1973. Atherinopsidae: Menidiinae. Distribution: Southern North America: Lerma River basin, Pacific Slope (Mexico). Habitat: freshwater.
