Holotype: not researched. Paratypes: (104). •Valid as Atherinella alvarezi (Díaz-Pardo 1972) -- (Chernoff 1986:244 [ref. 5847], Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:57 [ref. 22290], Chernoff 2003:1097 [ref. 27017], Dyer in Reis et al. 2003:515 [ref. 27061], Nelson et al. 2004:97 [ref. 27807], Miller 2006:187 [ref. 28615], Page et al. 2013:99 [ref. 32708], Barrientos et al. 2015:4 [ref. 37653], Barrientos et al. 2023:273 [ref. 41235], Page et al. 2023:138 [ref. 40505], Quintana 2024:7 [ref. 41186]). Current status: Valid as Atherinella alvarezi (Díaz-Pardo 1972). Atherinopsidae: Menidiinae. Distribution: Southern North America and Central America: southern Mexico and northeastern Guatemala. Habitat: freshwater.
