Holotype (unique): USNM 2511. •Synonym of Seriola lalandi Valenciennes 1833 -- (Smith-Vaniz et al. 1990:748 [ref. 18644], Smith-Vaniz 1999:2740 [ref. 24833], Mecklenburg et al. 2002:650 [ref. 25968], Smith-Vaniz in Carpenter & De Angelis 2016:2502 [ref. 34618] dated 1864). •Synonym of Seriola lalandi Valenciennes 1833, but a valid subspecies -- (Peden & Jamieson 1988:492 [ref. 12864], McAllister 1990:147 [ref. 14674], Grove & Lavenberg 1997:372 [ref. 24023], Thomson et al. 2000:288 [ref. 25640], Dyer & Westneat 2010:606 [ref. 31446]). •Valid as Seriola dorsalis (Gill 1863) -- (Pequeño 1989:61 [ref. 14125], Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:288 [ref. 24555], Martinez-Takeshita et al. 2015:366 [ref. 33834], Burton & Lea 2019:76 [ref. 37205], Love et al. 2021:155 [ref. 39279]). Current status: Valid as Seriola dorsalis (Gill 1863). Carangidae: Naucratinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: northern British Columbia (Canada) south to central Mexico, including Gulf of California (Mexico), Malpelo Island (Colombia) and Galapagos Islands (Ecuador). Habitat: brackish, marine.
