graecus, Barbus Steindachner [F.] 1895:187 [7], Pl. 2 (fig. 4) [Denkschriften der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Wien, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Classe. v. 63; ref. 14637] Archelous [Achelos] River [Aspropotamo] or Lake Wrachori [Trichonis], western Greece. Lectotype: NMW 10702. Paralectotypes: NMW (apparently lost). On p. 7 of separate. Lectotype selected by Economidis & Herzig-Straschil in Bănărescu & Bogutskaya 2003:219 [ref. 27353] but not at this time (Jan. 2004) acceptable under the 1999 code; they did not give a locality for NMW 10702. •Synonym of Messinobarbus albanicus (Steindachner 1895) -- (Bianco 1998:128 [ref. 23811]). •Valid as Barbus graecus Steindachner 1895 -- (Kottelat 1997:49 [ref. 22952], Tsigenopoulos & Berrebi 2000:169 [ref. 25489], Economidis & Herzig-Straschil in Bănărescu & Bogutskaya 2003:219 [ref. 27353]). •Valid as Luciobarbus graecus (Steindachner 1895) -- (Kottelat & Freyhof 2007:138 [ref. 29996], Turan et al. 2008:42 [ref. 29741], Levin et al. 2012:544 [ref. 33912], Barbieri et al. 2015:56 [ref. 35029] dated 1896, Freyhof & Yoğurtçuoğlu 2024:473 [ref. 40875]). Current status: Valid as Luciobarbus graecus (Steindachner 1895). Cyprinidae: Barbinae. Distribution: Southeastern Europe, Asia Minor: Greece; western Anatonia (Turkey). Habitat: freshwater.
