Paratypes are probably available based on cited literature reference in the original description. •Valid as Centropristis ocyura (Jordan & Evermann 1887) -- (Parenti & Randall 2020:110 [ref. 37354]). •Valid as Centropristis ocyurus (Jordan & Evermann 1887) -- (Bortone 1977:23 [ref. 7059], Robins & Ray 1986:137 [ref. 23100], Bullock & Smith 1991:30 [ref. 36591], Boschung 1992:104 [ref. 23239], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:267 [ref. 24550] as Centropristes, Nakabo 2000:957 [ref. 25182], Schmitter-Soto et al. 2000:156 [ref. 27754], Nelson et al. 2004:127 [ref. 27807], McEachran & Fechhelm 2005:133 [ref. 28815], Page et al. 2013:131 [ref. 32708], Page et al. 2023:193 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Centropristis ocyurus (Jordan & Evermann 1887). Serranidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic North Carolina to Florida (U.S.A.), and Gulf of Mexico (U.S.A., Mexico). Habitat: marine.
