Lectotype: USNM 38319. Paralectotypes: (11) CAS-SU 4036 (6). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:73 [ref. 12291], Collette & Knapp 1967:33-34 [ref. 20211]. Lectotype established by Jordan & Evermann 1896:1044 [ref. 2443]. •Synonym of Etheostoma sagitta (Jordan & Swain 1883) -- (Page 1983:59 [ref. 22189]). •Synonym of Etheostoma sagitta (Jordan & Swain 1883) but a valid subspecies -- (Scharpf 2008:31 [ref. 30399]). •Valid as Etheostoma spilotum Gilbert 1887 -- (Page & Burr 2011:569 [ref. 31215], Thomas et al. 2023:50 [ref. 40218], Page et al. 2023:201 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Etheostoma spilotum Gilbert 1887. Percidae: Etheostomatinae. Distribution: North America: Kentucky (U.S.A.). Habitat: freshwater.
