Holotype: USNM 72946. Paratypes: (3 + 3 + 1). First author is H. M. Smith. Also a form alpha was described, but it is regarded as unavailable; the specimens representing form alpha are not types of platorhynchus. Correct spelling of the genus is Coelorinchus. •Valid as Caelorinchus platorhynchus Smith & Radcliffe 1912 -- (Iwamoto & Merrett 1997:502 [ref. 23710], Iwamoto 1999:1991 [ref. 24761], Merrett & Iwamoto 2000:747 [ref. 25037]). •Valid as Coelorinchus platorhynchus Smith & Radcliffe 1912 -- (Iwamoto in Cohen et al. 1990:138 [ref. 18936], Fricke et al. 2011:363 [ref. 31242]). Current status: Valid as Coelorinchus platorhynchus Smith & Radcliffe 1912. Macrouridae. Distribution: Western Pacific. Habitat: marine.
