Paralectotypes: BMNH 1898.12.5.5-6 (2), MGHN 3072-73 (2, 7), USNM 48022 (1). Originally as flavii-josephi. Lectotype selected by Krupp & Schneider 1989:395 [ref. 13651]. •Valid as Haplochromis flaviijosephi (Lortet 1883) -- (Goren 1974:104 [ref. 7502], van Oijen et al. 1991:126 [ref. 20956]). •Valid as Astatotilapia flaviijosephi (Lortet 1883) -- (Krupp & Schneider 1989:395 [ref. 13651], Khalaf 2013:4 [ref. 37897], Trape 2016:534 [ref. 34893], Çiçek et al. 2023:464 [ref. 40601], Saad et al. 2023:38 [ref. 40501], Çiçek et al. 2024:327 [ref. 40789]). Current status: Valid as Astatotilapia flaviijosephi (Lortet 1883). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Middle East: Jordan River system (Syria, Israel, Jordan). Habitat: freshwater.
