Holotype (unique): BMNH 1935.6.14.170. •Valid as Pseudotropheus fuscus Trewavas 1935 -- (Maréchal 1991:405 [ref. 20944], Konings 2016:274 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Pseudotropheus fuscus Trewavas 1935. Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
