Specific name incorrectly treated as adjective by Maréchal & Poll 1991. •Valid as Xenotilapia spilopterus Poll & Stewart 1975 -- (Maréchal & Poll 1991:542 [ref. 20946] as spiloptera, Takahashi 2003:46 [ref. 26772] as spiloptera, Konings 2015:294 [ref. 34660], Konings 2019:310 [ref. 36983]). Current status: Valid as Xenotilapia spilopterus Poll & Stewart 1975. Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: eastern and southern Lake Tanganyika. Habitat: freshwater.
