Holotype (unique): MCZ 28689. The species epithet is a adjective, meaning club-footed, so the ending should be scaura when in the feminine genus Lycnchelys. •Valid as Lycenchelys scaurus (Garman 1899) -- (Pequeño 1989:48 [ref. 14125], Anderson 1994:118 [ref. 21438], Anderson 1995:104 [ref. 21928], Anderson & Fedorov 2004:20 [ref. 27603], Balushkin et al. 2011:1026 [ref. 32449], Thiel et al. 2018:53 [ref. 35743]). •Valid as Lycenchelys scaura (Garman 1899).
