Type catalog: Böhlke 1984:110 [ref. 13621]. •Valid as Gobionellus stigmalophius Mead & Böhlke 1958 -- (Robins & Ray 1986:247 [ref. 23100]). •Valid as Oxyurichthys stigmalophius (Mead & Böhlke 1958) -- (Pezold 1998:693 [ref. 23420], Murdy & Hoese 2003:1795 [ref. 27111], Smith et al. 2003:64 [ref. 27621] with authors as Meade & Böhlke, Pezold 2004:273 [ref. 27685], Nelson et al. 2004:173 [ref. 27807], Dennis et al. 2004:83 [ref. 31601], McEachran & Fechhelm 2005:723 [ref. 28815], Van Tassell 2011:145 [ref. 31732], Page et al. 2013:178 [ref. 32708], Pezold & Larson 2015:6, 71 [ref. 33894], Del Moral-Flores et al. 2020:171 [ref. 37680], Robertson et al. 2022:86 [ref. 39353], Carvalho-Filho 2023:237 [ref. 40480]). Distribution: Western Atlantic: Bahamas south to espírito Santo (Brazil), including Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. Habitat: marine.
