Lectotype: ZIN 2107 (123 mm female). Paralectotypes: ZIN 2107a (1, 109 mm male). Additional material: NMW 29446, 3067 (1), 30552-53 (2); ZIN 2097 (?), 2109 (1), 13920 (1), 15394a (1), 37286 (1). Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Gobius platycephalus Richardson 1846 and Peters 1852, replaced by Gobius kessleri Günther 1861. Lectotype selected by Pinchuk 1977. •Synonym of Neogobius kessleri (Günther 1861) -- (Miller 1973:503 [ref. 6888], Coad 1995:31 [ref. 23608], Kottelat 1997:178 [ref. 22952], Vasil'eva & Vasil'ev 2003:280 [ref. 27347]). •Synonym of Ponticola kessleri (Günther 1861) -- (Neilson & Stepien 2009:97 [ref. 30487], Parin et al. 2014:499 [ref. 33547], Parenti 2021:75 [ref. 38603]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Ponticola kessleri (Günther 1861). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
